GSIS students are passionate, independent, lifelong learners
Our students strive for personal best & are responsible global citizens
Ours is an inspirational learning community that fosters happy, mindful and creative thinkers committed to the sustainable development of our world.
Enough, for everybody, forever.
We believe sustainability is about so much more than reducing plastic waste or raising chickens. It is a way of life. Our strategic planning process is based on the sustainable development of educational practice, which in turn is the bedrock of everything we do at Green Shoots.
True regard for the feelings, wishes & rights of others.
At Green Shoots, everybody matters: students, parents, teachers, support staff... we teach children to respect equally all the people in their lives. But we don’t stop there. Respect for our community and for the wider world are also core to the development of this important value, which underpins and brings together all others.
Being able to adjust to new conditions.
Teaching at Green Shoots is adaptive and responsive to each student’s needs. Children and their teachers learn to adapt and grow as their relationship develops and each child’s learning journey matures.
Determination to keep going, even when it is difficult.
Our shared experience of COVID-19 lockdown learning was a real-life experiment in the development of tenacity. Like so many others around the world, Green Shoots students and staff had to keep the learning going when so much around them was changing every day. The resilience and strength they developed during this period will endure forever.
To live without undue influence from others.
Green Shoots teaches children to think independently, listen respectfully to the views of others, and build their own opinions from the facts and viewpoints they are exposed to. The ability to think critically and independently is a vital 21st century skill for children who will grow up to work in industries we cannot even imagine yet!
Consideration for the needs of others.
This value is part of the everyday life of Green Shoots as children are encouraged and reminded to consider the needs of those around them: their friends, teachers, families, and all of the other people who contribute to their childhood and happiness. Thoughtfulness is an integral part of ‘respect’, which we believe is a uniting value bringing together all others.
Living with strong moral principles & values.
It can be difficult to pin down the teaching of ‘strong moral principles’ as these are a way of life, not a lesson. Perhaps more than any of Green Shoots’ core values, they are taught by example, which is why the school selects its staff so carefully and maintains the highest principles in its policy making and leadership decisions. Children learn from what adults do, not what they say, and each day at Green Shoots is an opportunity for students to see integrity in action.
Working together to achieve the same goal.
Green Shoots is a community of over 150 children and adults from almost 30 different countries who range in age from two years old to over 60. No wonder cooperation is so important! We live this value in the classroom, at lunchtime, on the playground, and when meeting together off-campus.
