Global Citizenship is a unique subject at Green Shoots which aims to develop students’ understanding of their local environment and the community they live in through a combination of theoretical, practical, and outdoor learning activities. Students explore school and local sustainability issues, and apply practical skills in order to create solutions for the community we live in.
In Year 7-11 all students complete a Global Citizenship Project throughout the year centred on the areas of community, environment, sustainability and life skills that are at the core of our Secondary programme.
Students engage in projects in both the school and local community to develop a great understanding of their wider world. Students research meaningful projects that will have a positive impact on their community.
Students consider the impact that their projects and actions can have on the world around them and identify actions to help reduce, reuse and recycle within their projects.
Students develop relationships and skills in collaboration and communication in order to interact with the world around them and guide their projects to successful outcomes. Students analyse the choices for project topics.
Students engage in systems thinking in their projects to ensure that they have a long term and sustainable impact in their outcomes. Students reflect on the impact of their projects.
